Mt Williamson Motel and Basecamp

Gem in the Eastern Sierra. We didn’t know this motel existed until we joined some JMT group on Facebook when we were planning our section hike. Many hikers are raving about this motel, how hikers friendly they are. All the reviews are spot on. We parked our car here during our hike for a fee. We ended our section hike at Onion Valley and were picked-up by the motel’s shuttle and their driver is none other than the legendary and sweet Mr. Lone Pine Kurt. He shuttled us too to Horseshoe Meadow to start our hike. Em, Lauralyn and Doug are super friendly with 10 stars level customer service. Our cabin was a single bed one, super cute and clean. We were very surprised with a clean white linen package on the bed to cover the quilt if we are going to use the bed to lay our dirty backpacks and gears. We were like 😍 for this details. Homemade breakfast were waiting for us the next morning where we met fellow hikers and exchange the trail stories. If you have dietary needs, they will be happy to accommodate if they are able to. We will be back for our future trips to the Sierra and highly recommend this to our family and friends.

I cannot recommend this place any higher. As a through hiker, this place is a must zero day! The people go out of their way to support hikers and are super friendly. I cannot recommend this place any higher. We were fortunate enough to arrive during a birthday celebration and we were welcomed with open arms. They have laundry service on site and even have hiker boxes. Their breakfast is outstanding and if leaving early, you can ask for a burrito. After a tough hike through the pass, his is a great place to stay.

I stayed here overnight as part of a Hiker's Resupply Package when successfully :-) completing the NOBO JMT. Travelling from the UK, I contacted the motel several times before to ensure I could have a resupply sent there and call in early to divide it up before heading off to Lone Pine and the start. Emails were answered quickly. On the day, I arrived at the Trail Head early and hitched down, unfortunately missing/passing the driver on the way up to collect me - phone reception is pretty limited. LauraLynn the owner was super-friendly and welcoming and provided up to date info on hiking options, etc. The room I booked was perfect - spotlessly clean, comfortable and well appointed. I had no issues with road noise, though in fairness was at the back. My trail clothes were washed and returned efficiently and the loaner clothes were absolutely fine. Breakfast was filling - home cooked and tasty with a mixture of fruit and bacon and eggs, etc. In summary, the owners are clearly passionate about hiking and cater exceptionally well for that market. But they show equal passion for hospitality and I recommend a stay here either if doing the JMT or simply passing through and need a bed.

What a great experience. The pickup was perfect. Resupply in the room. Loaner clothing and laundry. Next morning a nice breakfast and a ride to Onion Valley. A well run friendly. Operation. The people who run the operation understand the needs of hikers. Highest recommendation.

I absolutely loved my stay here and felt at home immediately. Doug was an absolute godsend while helping me with transportation from the JMT, and I truly could not have made it back safely or feasibly without his help. My stay at the hotel made me want to stay forever, and I hope to come back soon. Doug made sure no one was left out for his home cooked breakfast, and I made some amazing friends while sharing it. The cabins were so homey, and the exact retreat I needed after some intense hiking. I would recommend this place to anyone, and would go out of my way to stay here again.

Super cute cottages. I’m in a suite with a living room, kitchen and separate bedroom and bath. Well kept, thoughtful selection of decor. Super comfy. Beautiful shared spaces and porch. Only difficulty is lack of restaurants and groceries.
